As good as Just Host’s web hosting packages seemed, we were left with the question — is it too good to be true? That’s what we set out to find when we reviewed Just Host.

We have to admit that we were a bit skeptical of the claims at first. We figured that with all of the “unlimited” stuff, there must be a catch somewhere, something that we don’t know about. Well, we can happily report that there’s no catch — everything is as good as it looks!

We signed up for a hosting account with a new domain name, and had been set up with FTP access and were ready to go in a very short amount of time. The speed of deployment surprised us, since many other hosts can take between 4 and 12 hours to get an account set up.

Once the account was set up, we threw a couple of test sites together — a Wordpress blog, a Joomla site, a site created with Just Host’s site builder tools and a couple of other test sites. Everything was really seamless and easy for us to set up. Even Doug, our really non-technical graphics guy, was able to figure out the site builder in no time at all from start to finish, which is impressive (especially if you know Doug).

Upload and download speeds from the server were really impressive, and were as good as any other good host we’ve tested, which isn’t always the case. Sometimes, hosting companies that advertise tons of unlimited space and resources end up sticking your account on an overloaded, slow, over-sold server — leaving you with an unlimited account that you can’t do anything with because it’s too slow! Definitely not the case here; everything was fast the whole time.

As a next step, we stuck some bandwidth and uptime monitors on our test sites and started pumping some test traffic in. We let the system run for a month and our downtime-monitoring system (which is pretty sensitive, and polls sites every 15 seconds) didn’t notice a bit of downtime during the test. Additionally, our web monitoring tools (a Javascript plugin that we insert on the page of test sites) showed consistently fast page load times, showing that the speed remained consistent the entire time without any dips or lags.

Additionally, we filed a few support tickets (a couple of “real” ones, and a frivolous one or two, just to test response time). All of them were answered quickly and professionally, in language that was polite and easy to understand for an end user.
